Auditions for ‘To Gillian, on her 37th birthday’

Eastbound Theatre, a division of the Milford Fine Arts Council, will hold auditions for the final show of its 20th season, the comedy To Gillian, on her 37th Birthday, by Michael Brady, directed by Nancy Herman.

Auditions will be held on April 2 and 3 at 7 p.m. at Milford Center for the Arts, 40 Railroad Avenue South in Milford.

Performances will be June 6 to 22.

Roles are available for seven actors, two male and five female. Ages range from 16 to 50s and actors will be asked to read sides from the script. Actors interested in reviewing sides in advance should contact the director at nahshell33@aol.com.

 

Synopsis of the play

David is a widower living with his daughter Rachel. Since the death of his wife Gillian on the day of her birthday two years ago, he has retired from teaching and instead he spends his time brooding at their island beach house, trying to connect with Gillian’s spirit.

His love for her and his inability to cope with her loss blinds him to the increasing strain on his relationship with his daughter, and her need for his love and guidance.

As Labor Day approaches David’s sister-in-law, Esther. and her husband, Paul, come to visit, bringing with them a woman named Kevin as a blind date for David. Tensions rise as the family tries to finally deal with their grief and find a way to move on.

Male Roles

David – 30s-40s, college professor temporarily retired.

Paul – mid-30′s – early 50′s, David’s brother-in-law, married to Esther

Rachel – 16, David’s daughter

Cindy – 16, Rachel’s friend

Esther – 30s-40s, David’s sister-in-law, a psychologist, married to Paul

Kevin – late 20s-early 30s, female, friend of Paul and Esther, recently divorced

Gillian – 30s-40s, David’s former wife who died in a sailing accident two years prior to the events of the play; Esther’s sister; Rachel’s mom
