Canoe accident in Milford waters: One rescued, second person found but condition unknown

Today at 2:11 p.m., the Milford Fire Department received a 911 call for two people in distress from an overturned canoe between Silvers State Park and Charles Island.

The city’s Marine 2 responded with three personnel and located one person near the canoe and brought the person back to Milford harbor, for transport to Milford Hospital for evaluation of any injuries.

Stratford Fire Department’s marine unit and the US Coast Guard also responded to the area, including a Coast Guard helicopter from Cape Cod. The Coast Guard vessel located the second person east of Charles Island without a pulse and started immediate CPR as they transported the person to Milford Harbor. Emergency care was transferred to Milford Fire Department and American Medical Response and the person was transported to Milford Hospital. This person’s condition is still unknown at this time.
