Donelle Toner was an elementary school teacher in Milford for a number of years. Now she has opened a candy store in Monroe, where she will host children’s events including tea parties, like the one pictured here.

Donelle Toner, a Shelton resident and former elementary school teacher in Milford, recently opened Grandma Josie’s-Candies, Sweets, Parties and Treats at 477 Main Street (Rte 25) in Monroe.

Toner said she has always wanted to open up her own business.

Her new store offers specialty candies, old time favorites, trendy treats, along with gourmet chocolates and fudge from premium companies in Vermont and New Hampshire. Sugar free and gluten free items are available as well. Gift items and gift baskets can also be purchased.

Having theater and music in her background, she plans to incorporate these talents, booking some creative parties for all ages right on the premises.

Her store will offer children’s theme parties, tween and teen packages, partnering with a local nail salon, adult tea parties, book clubs, monthly events and promotions, small showers and business meetings.

Business hours will be Monday through Sunday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. to start, and parties by reservation to accommodate customers at any reasonable hour.

Irish step dancing lessons will be offered during the month of March, accompanied by Grandma’s green candy buffet and refreshments.
