Foran advances to tonight’s tourney final

The Foran boys basketball team placed five players in double figures, led by 14 points and eight assists from senior guard Matt Gomes, in defeating Sheehan of Wallingford, 57-51,  Thursday night in an opening-round game of the 14th annual Platt Tech Christmas Tournament in Milford.
The win by the Lions, which evened the team’s record at 2-2, advances them into tonight’s championship game against Bullard-Havens Tech of Bridgeport. The Tigers defeated Platt Tech, 62-31, in the second game.
Foran has won the previous three Christmas tournaments, and also defeated the Titans, 80-54, en route to last year’s title.
Nick Weissauer, Sean Deegan and Bob Notholt collected 11 points each and Billy Suech, coming off the bench, chipped in with 10.
Notholt had eight rebounds and Weissauer added six.
