Law-Branford in scoring fest

Jonathan Law and Branford High conducted an SCC football shootout, with the Hornets winning a 62-44 decision at Law Field on Saturday.

Coach Mark Robinson’s  Lawmen answered the Hornet’s ground game with fine special team play and an aerial attack.

Branford (4-2) rushed for 573 yards, while Timmy Maher tossed two touchdown passes to Dan Ziebell and Eli Woodbury returned a pair of kickoffs for touchdowns for Law (2-4).

Maher and Ziebell connected from 35 yards out to put Law up 6-0 before Branford scored three times to take a 20-6 lead after one quarter.

It was 27-6 when Woodbury ran the ensuing kickoff back for 86 yards and a score, and Mick Murray added the PAT.

Branford tallied again, as did Woodbury, this time on an 83-yard return.

Branford led, 41-20 at the half.

Joe Ziebell scored on an eight-yard run, and Maher ran for the two-point conversion, for the only scoring in the third quarter.

Branford built on that 41-28 lead with a pair of scores in the final period.

Nick Kosa ran for a five-yard touchdown and Dan Ziebell caught a 67-yard pass from Maher, who both times ran for the conversion, to bring Law within 55-44.

Branford’s Justin Blood ran for his fourth touchdown to finish the scoring.
