Milford’s Katherine Kurata dances lead at the Waterbury Palace

Milford resident Katherine Kurata will dance the lead roles of Clara and Arabian in Nutcracker at the Palace on Dec. 14.

Katie is a junior at Foran High School, where she is an honor student and vice president of the AP European Scholars Club.

She is a bronze-medalist in both the junior and senior divisions of the Connecticut Classic Ballet Competition and has a long list of stage credits in Nutcracker and other classical ballets.

Katie is training with Randyl Errica and Alexei Tchernichov in the Pre-Professional Classical Ballet Program at Woodbury Ballet. She will dance a snow pas de deux added by special permission of Elena Tchernichova, former ballet mistress of American Ballet Theatre, that was originally choreographed for Mikhail Baryshnikov and Gelsey Kirkland.

The Milford dancer will also take the stage with professional dancer Justin Sherwood to perform an acrobatic Arabian Pas de deux.

Showtime is 4 p.m. at the historic Waterbury Palace Theatre, 100 East Main Street, Waterbury.
