Graduations will take place at Foran and Jonathan Law high schools Tuesday at 5:15 p.m.
Ceremonies will take place on the school football fields. If it rains, ceremonies will move inside to the auditorium or gym.
At Foran, Thomas Bassine will serve the Class of 2012 as valedictorian and Jenny Taing will be salutatorian.
Thomas Bassine, son of Patricia Donati and David Bassine, is the top student in the Foran High School Class of 2012 with a GPA of 4.22. Ranking first in his class of 230, Thomas completed 14 honors level courses as well as eight Advanced Placement (AP) courses.
As a student-athlete, Thomas earned varsity letters in cross country and in track and field. He also served as team captain. Thomas was named the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) Scholar Athlete of the Year for Foran.
Thomas will attend the University of Connecticut in the fall, enrolled in the highly selective Honors College.
Salutatorian Jenny Taing is the daughter of Bunseng and Eng Taing. She ranked second in a class of 230 with a GPA of 4.17. During her career at Foran, Jenny completed 16 honors level courses, as well as 6 Advanced Placement (AP) courses.
As an accomplished artist, Jenny has had several pieces of her work on display at various art shows over the years, and she was a member of the varsity girls’ tennis team.
She will attend Drexel University in the fall, where she plans to double major in graphic design and marketing.
At Jonathan Law Bhaswati Chattopadhyay will serve the Class of 2012 as their valedictorian and Shelja Patel will serve as salutatorian.
Bhaswati Chattopadhyay, daughter of Bhaskar and Minu Chattopadhyay, is the top student in the Class of 2012 at Jonathan Law, with a GPA of 4.31. Ranking first in her class of 236, she completed 15 honors level courses as well as eight Advanced Placement (AP) courses.
She will be attending Boston University in the fall, where she has been awarded a Dean’s Scholarship. She plans to major in computer science.
Shelja Patel, daughter of Sanjay and Alpa Patel, will serve the Class of 2012 at Jonathan Law High School as the salutatorian. She ranked second in a class of 236 with a GPA of 4.17. During her career at Law, Shelja completed 13 honors level courses, as well as 9 Advanced Placement (AP) courses.
She will be attending Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, in the fall where she plans to major in pharmaceutical studies.
